Archbishop of York Award

The Archbishops’ Young Leaders Award is a fully resourced leadership and character education programme that empowers pupils to learn and practise key leadership skills and character virtues and to transform their communities through social action.

At Long Mountain, we offer all children in Year 5 and 6 the opportunity to take part in the Young Leader's Award during the Summer Term. As part of this award, children take part in 6 units. These are: Leadership Skills; Inspirational Leaders; Local Community; National Community; Global Community and Community Action.

Combining work on researching leaders, planning school initiatives, taking part in leadership activities at home and planning a community action project, develops children's knowledge and understanding of what makes a good leader. It also links strongly to our school and British Values and these are referred to each session.

What being a leader means to us

"If you are fair and understanding, you have the chance of being a leader."

"To be a leader, you need to be independent and brave."

"Being brave is part of being a leader, but being inspirational is what makes someone a good leader."

"A trustworthy leader has the courage to stand up for what is right."
